NEW YORK: Pakistan permanent representative to UN and ambassador Maleeha Lodhi has said indications are there that cessation to protracted Afghan war is possible through dialogue.
She said this while addressing UN Security Council session. She held that the destinies of both Pakistan and Afghanistan are interconnected with each other.
She warned if no flexibility is demonstrated on Afghan issue then the serious negotiations toward political solution of this issue can be put on hold.
She underlined that the militants organization Daesh and the groups operating under its influence are posing serious threat not only to Afghanistan and its neighboring countries but also the entire world.
Pakistan’s ambassador further said Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi visited Afghanistan on his first foreign tour — a clear signal of the importance that the new government attaches to its relations with Afghanistan and its commitment to promote peace and stability in its neighbouring country.
She further stressed that all sides should agree on a de-escalation in order to create an environment for peace talks.
She remarked Afghanistan-Pakistan action plan for peace and stability serves as framework for talks. The responsibility to capitalize on opportunity lies on those which are involved directly in Afghan conflict.
