ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought reply from federal government for removing Saeed Ahmad as president of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP).
The federal government in previous meeting had accorded approval to remove President of NBP Saeed Ahmad from his post on money laundering charges and Tariq Jamali was appointed as acting president of NBP in his place.
Saeed Ahmad had challenged in IHC government orders for removing him from his post .
IHC bench presided over by Justice Athar Minallah took up the petition filed by Saeed Ahmad for hearing on Friday.
Saeed Ahmad took the plea that he is contract employee and he has never violated rules and regulations. No departmental inquiry is pending against him. Neither any charge sheet has been framed against him nor any show cause notice was issued to him. His suspension from service without hearing him is illegal.
He prayed the court to set aside finance secretary notification by declaring it illegal besides allowing him to work as president NBP till January 01, 2019.
The court issued notices to all parties concerned after brief hearing. Notices have been issued to principal secretary of Prime Minister (PM), finance secretary, cabinet secretary, governor State Bank, Board of Directors of National Bank and Attorney General of Pakistan.
During the hearing Justice Athar Minallah inquired has suspension order of only Saeed Ahmad been passed or some other order has also been passed.
The lawyer told the court that no order other than this order has been passed. However the approval for appointment of new president of NBP has been given. Federal cabinet accorded approval to the appointment of new president and its press clipping is available.
Justice Athar Minallah remarked we can not issue any order on press clippings.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till September 10.
