Islamabad: The Federal Cabinet has given approval to remove the President of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Saeed Ahmad Khan from his post. “Saeed Ahmed Khan was involved in money laundering of billion of rupees and is facing cases in court” stated by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Ch. after the cabinet meeting.
While addressing the media persons after the cabinet meeting Fawad Chaudhry stated that decision has been made to remove National Bank of President Saeed Ahmad Khan from his post.
Chaudhry added a committee has been constituted to make south Punjab a separate province whereas foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Khusro Bakhtiar will be members of the committee. Chaudhry added that merger of FATA with KPK will also be expedited. He said, “Efforts have been expedited to implement 100-day plan”. The information went on to say that legislation will be amended to make laws of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) more affective.
He said that a task force has also been constituted to build five million homes and provision of 10 million jobs for the under-privileged people. The federal cabinet met on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad where it discussed the formation of task forces to tackle the matter of creating 10 million jobs and building 5 million houses as promised by the incumbent government.
Fawad Chaudhry said that task forces will complete their working on the matters and present their plan in 90-days’ time. “The prime minister will also review the performance of these task forces after every 15 days,” Chaudhry said.
“Government reforms are a crucial matter and under which civil service reforms hold a high degree of importance. Our adviser for austerity has been tasked with presenting federal government reforms within 90 days.” he added.
The cabinet also touched upon the matter of forming a separate province in southern Punjab, Chaudhry said. “PTI government will hold talks with the PPP, PML-N and other parties to draft a ‘workable plan’ for the creation of a province in south Punjab,” Chaudhry reiterated. “Creating a province is no small task. We will need consensus and a two-thirds majority for which we will begin talks with the PPP and PML-N,” the information minister maintained. The Minister said National Accountability Bureau laws will be amended to make the body more effective. He said a task force headed by Law Minister Farogh Nasim will work on it. He said necessary amendments will also be introduced in civil laws to address women inheritance issues and delay in decision of cases.
Minister said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was reviewed in the meeting, and it was decided that the Prime Minister will be given a detailed presentation on the projects being executed under CPEC. He said Arbab Shehzad has been assigned the task of early materialization of FATA’s merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said task forces have also been set up to ensure fulfilment of the government’s promise of providing ten million jobs and five million houses. The Information Minister said the Prime Minister will review performance of the task forces after every fifteen days.
The government will hold a ‘Plant for Pakistan Day’ on September 2, where 1.5 million saplings will be planted all over the country in a single day. Climate Change Adviser Aslam also briefed media about the initiative and said that the drive is an important step “to save Pakistan from becoming a desert.”
“The prime minister will begin this project here in Islamabad while the chief ministers will lead it in their respective provinces,” Aslam said. Speaking on the occasion, Advisor on Climate Change Amin Aslam said a ten billion tree tsunami will be launched across the country on the pattern of PTI government’s Billion Tree Tsunami campaign in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said Plant for Pakistan Day will be observed on second of the next month, and on that day, 1.5 million trees will be planted across the country. He said saplings will be provided free of cost from different locations across the country.
