Lahore: The nominated Governor of Punjab, Chaudhry Sarwar has postponed the date of swearing in as Governor, till the presidential elections in order to “help elect” Arif Alvi in the upcoming presidential elections.
Earlier the oath taking ceremony of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader had been scheduled to be held on August 28.
He informed through a tweet on the micro blogging website Twitter.
“I have the honour of being a member of the Senate of Pakistan. I wish to fulfill my duty as a Senator & help elect Dr Arif Alvi as the President of Pakistan on Sept 4th. I will inshallah take my oath as Governor of Punjab after that!” he tweeted.
As the only Senator for PTI from Punjab, Chaudhry Sarwar’s vote is being considered to be crucial.
The opposition parties, if succeed to field joint candidate for the slot of president, are expected to deliver a blow to the candidate of the ruling party.
