AC to announce joint verdict in Al-Azizia, Flagship investment references

ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court (AC) while ordering to announce joint decision in Al-Azizia and Flagship Investment references has adjourned the hearing till August 27.
Judge Muhammad Arshid Malik of AC No 2 heard NAB references against PML-N supremo and ousted Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif Monday.
Nawaz was taken from Adiala jail to AC in tight security. On this occasion two PML-N workers tried to shower petals on Nawaz caravan outside Adiala jail but police took the both into custody.
Khawaja Haris counsel for Nawaz Sharif and deputy prosecutor general NAB Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi appeared before the court.
Khawaja Haris argued in support of announcing joint verdict in two remaining references against Nawaz Sharif saying AC No 1 had decided to announce joint verdict in three references but the court announced decision in Avenfield reference.
Khawaja Haris further argued that owing to non announcement of joint verdict in the three references the remaining two references were transferred to this court. NAB prosecutor said that it is upto court to decide whether joint or separate verdict of the two references has to be announced . No one can dictate the court.
The court after hearing the arguments the court accepted the plea of Khawaja Haris to announce joint verdict of both the references.
The AC had summoned PANAMA JIT chief Wajid Zia on Monday.
Due his absence from the court the AC judge Arshid Malik inquired Wajid Zia is where. He has not appeared so far.
NAB prosecutor told the court Wajid Zia is on the way to court and he is bringing record with him.
Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi further said the process of recording statement of investigation officer was started on previous hearing, therefore, it should be completed first.
Khawaja Haris said “ I have to go to high court just now and it is impossible for me to return from the court.
Judge Arshid Malik remarked “ it means Wajid Zia cannot be cross questioned.
The court while adjourning the hearing of Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship references till August 27 remarked Wajid Zia will be cross examined on next hearing.
