Islamabad:(Parliament Times) Terming Indian Premier Narendar Modi’s recent remarks on Kashmir as a mere eyewash the vice president of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Mehmood Ahmed Saghar has said that the blood of innocent Kashmiris being spilt on the streets in every high and low of the valley exposes the BJP government’s so-called mantra of resolving Kashmir through peaceful means.
Responding to Modi’s independence day speech wherein he reiterated the former Indian premier’s much touted political recipe for the resolution of Kashmir dispute, the DFP leader said that it was quite astonishing to note that a macabre game of death and destruction is being staged in Kashmir under the pretext of this slogan ‘Insaaniyat, Kashmiriyat and Jamhuriyat’. He said that Indian Prime Minister must stop the bloodbath of innocent civilians in the disputed region if he was really serious in resolving the lingering dispute through peaceful means. “The disputed nature of the State is well established by the relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Kashmiris have never accepted India’s forcible control. Indian rulers must realize the bitter reality that there are no takers of their so-called development mantra in Kashmir. Kashmir is a political issue that needs a political solution. New Delhi can’t woo Kashmiri people by extending financial packages and economic concessions,” Saghar said adding it was high time that Indian should realise the ground reality that its bullet and abuse policy has failed to subdue Kashmiris’ struggle for right to self-determination. Kashmiris he said demand nothing less or more than holding a referendum under the auspicious of the UN to determine their own political future. Instead of weaving cobwebs of confusion around the Kashmir dispute Saghar said that India should come forward with a positive state of mind and fulfill its commitments made with the people of Kashmir. “This is what the people of Kashmir have been demanding from India”, he said adding that if Indians really understand and believe in what they call ‘Insaniyat and Jamhoriat’ they must not shy away from granting the fundamental rights the people of the region have been fighting for last several decades.
So for as the peace is concerned he reminded the rulers in New Delhi that a durable peace in the region will remain a distant dream unless and until the dispute of Kashmir is resolved in accordance with the wishes and will of Kashmiri people who he said have rendered matchless sacrifices for their inalienable right, the right to self-determination. Urging India to create a conducive atmosphere for the peaceful resolution of dispute, Saghar said that India should stop human rights violations in Kashmir, repeal all black laws and release all political leaders including Shabir Ahmed Shah and others who have been languishing in jails in and outside the valley.
Meanwhile, DFP vice president expressed his profound grief and sorrow over the demise of pro-freedom leader Riyaz Ahmad Dar. Dar, 61, passed away in Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) following a cardiac arrest.
