ISLAMABAD: The Joint Action Committee comprising representatives of eleven political parties agreed to form ‘Pakistan Alliance for Fair and Free Elections’ against rigging in the July 25 polls.
Senator Mushahid Hussain in a statement said that the alliance will stage protest outside Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), provincial election commission, in and outside parliament. He further said that the protest will be peaceful, adding that the opposition would give tough time to PTI.
In a statement, Mushahid, a member of the Joint Action Committee said the alliance comprising major parties including Pakistan Muslim League(N), Pakistan Peoples Party, Muttahida Majlis Amal and Awami National Party will chalk out a program of action for protests, both inside and outside the Parliament.
He said basic decisions had already been taken by central leadership meeting at the All Parties Conference (APC).
The Action Committee was tasked to do follow up, including finalizing names, specific actions and way forward and all of this has been agreed unanimously, in a cordial atmosphere and through democratic consensus, he added. He said that the name of Shahbaz Sharif as candidate of prime minister wasn’t finalized yet. On the other hand, Shireen Rehman said that name of Syed Khurshid Shah has been finalized as Opposition Leader.
The meeting was attended by PPP leaders Sherry Rehman and Qamar Zaman Kaira, PML-N’s Mushahid Hussain Syed, ANP’s Mian Iftikhar Hussain and Ghulam Ahmad Bilour and MMA leaders Maulana Ghafoor Haideri and Awais Noorani. Malik Ayub, Anisa Zeb Tahir Kheli, Liaquat Baloch and Senator Mir Kabir.
The meeting discussed the post-election scenario and the future course of action. The Action Committee was formed by the major parties after an All Parties Conference (APC).
