Brussels: Kashmir Council EU (KC-EU) has held a peaceful protest camp in Brussels, the capital city of Belgium on occasion of Kashmir’s martyrs Day of 13th July.
The camp was organized in front of European Union’s institutions including EU’s External Action Service at the EU headquarters Brussels on Friday.
Program was part of KC-EU’s widespread awareness movement on Kashmir and copies of UN’s recent report on Kashmir was also handed over to the officials of the EU’s institutions.
It is important to mention that the United Nations in its first-ever human rights report on Jammu and Kashmir has called for an urgent need to address past and ongoing human rights violations and abuses and deliver justice to all people in Kashmir. The main focus of the report released by the United Nations Human Rights Office in Geneva, remained on the human rights situation in the Indian occupied Kashmir from July 2016 to April 2018. It said that people of Kashmir had been suffering a conflict for seven decades that had claimed or ruined numerous lives. The 49-page report by the UN on the human rights situation in Kashmir highlights a situation of chronic impunity for violations committed by Indian forces.
During the camp on Friday, the volunteers of KC-EU also took signatures from the European people in favour of Kashmiris and against the human rights violation in Indian Held Kashmir (IHK). They also informed the EU’s people about human rights violation in IHK specially recent situation in IHK including martyrdom of famous journalist Shujaat Bukhari. A number of the people paid attention on the issue and supported the human rights in IHK by making their signature on the documents of the campaign. The EU based campaign had been first launched from Belgium in some years ago and so far, a large number the people in the different European countries have signed the documents of the awareness drive.
On the occasion, Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed has said that the purpose of the camp was to aware the Europens about human rights violations in IHK. He said, journalists are also being targeted in IHK as famous journalist Shujaat Bukhari was martyred in the occupied land last month. He stressed, we will continue our struggle till peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue. The issue should be resolved according to the wishes of the people of Kashmir.
EU should pressurize India to stop human rights violations and give rights to self determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
