Islamabad: Caretaker Interior Minister Azam Khan on Thursday admitted before the Senate Standing Committee on Interior that he had eliminated Zulfi Bukhari’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL) on his written assurance that he will be in the country within six days.
Senate Standing Committee for Interior meeting was held under the chair of Senator Rehman Malik at the Parliament House on Thursday. The meeting discussed the matter related to Zulfi Bukhari.
Interior Ministry had put Zulfi Bukhari’s name on the ECL on the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as the NAB was investigating a case against him, pertaining to his off-shore companies. The sources said as there wasn’t Senate body available so his name was included in the black list people in order to prevent him from travelling abroad.
The interior minister informed that meeting that he didn’t receive any request call regarding grant of permission to Zulfi Bukhari, adding that Interior secretary had brought his file himself with him. He informed him that Zulfi Bukhari had requested onetime permission as he wants to perform Umrah along with Imran Khan.
He said that the secretary had informed him that Zulfi Bukhari wants to perform Umrah with Imran Khan and he has given written assurance along with his onetime permission that he will return within six days.
While accepting his decision, the interior minister said that he himself witnessed Zulfi Bukhari’s file and later permitted him for travel. He said that he had clearly written on the file that Zulfi will have to return to the country within six days.
It is pertinent to mention here that the National Accountability Bureau was investigating off-shore companies’ case against Zulfi Bukhari and it had also requested the interior ministry to include Zulfi’s name on the ECL.
Meanwhile, speaking at a press conference, the caretaker interior minister said everyone knows what has been happening in Balochistan. He said the threat of terrorism still prevails, adding that there is a fear that terrorists can attack political parties’ rallies.
He said everyone knows our 35 years old issue with Afghanistan. Responding to a question regarding his relationship with PTI Chief Imran Khan, Azam Khan said Imran Khan Foundation was for helping the people affected by the floods and earthquakes and he had joined the foundation on the request of Imran Khan’s sister.
He informed the meeting that he had remained part of many other non-profit organizations in the country.
