Islamabad: National Assembly standing committee on Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs on Monday presented a report on purchase of plots in Quetta for the rehabilitation of Kashmiri refugees.
The meeting was held under the chaired of committee Chairman Malik Abrar Ahmed. Secretary Kashmir affairs informed the committee that the allotment team had made analysis of the allotment procedure and raised 120 objections.
As many as 89 profiles were personnel check of them no one could prove himself/herself AJK national and they were removed from the list.
The commissions’ rehabilitation informed the committee that no allotment was issued on 12 plots whereas 19 were declared with double allotments.
However, the committee was informed that until the court didn’t not issue verdict on 89 names, the names will be declared fake or bogus, since the government cannot take any decision in this connection.
The secretary Kashmir affairs said 12 other names are being investigated and 399 allotments were made on merit.
The committee chairman raised a question was inquiry initiated against the officials for their alleged involvement in embezzlement? Will you handover the plots to the genuine and deserving people after taking them back from fake persons? Will embezzlement remain continued in the future?
The secretary said that his official along with the assistant commissioners Quetta removed encroachments, adding that some removed their construction peacefully and on the others forces were used.
Junaid Akbar, a member committee, said that the commissioner’s rehabilitation’s briefing is similar to the briefing we have been hearing since 2005. He said the non-allotment of plots to the Kashmiri refugees after 34 years is a matter of concern.
Declaring the report poorly developed and incomplete, the chairman committee directed the competent authority to present a comprehensive report in the next meeting.
Meanwhile, the committee was briefed on the development work in the agriculture sector of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The secretary agriculture GB briefed the meeting that more than 40 per cent income in the area is from agriculture sector. The income of fruit industry in the area is 60 per cent, adding that the area produced 125,000 ton apricot, which 34 per cent of the total income in the region.
Likewise, apple 17 per cent and Cherry 6 per cent are being produced in the region. The committee was informed that the total requirement of potatoes in the country is 300,000 but still over 6,000 potatoes are being imported in the country. About 60,000 to 70,000 metric tons potatoes are being produced in Gilgit-Baltistan and Rs2,400 million can be safe by facilitating local former in the region. The committee recommended the federal government to allocate PSDP funds in the next budget.
