Islamabad: Chief Justice Supreme Court Mian Saqib Nisar has said that if the appointment of Ataul Haq Qasmi as MD PTV would prove illegal then his two years salaries of Rs 270 million will be recovered from Nawaz Sharif.
On Friday a two member bench headed by Chief Justice has heard the suo motu notice on the appointment of MD PTV Ataul Haq Qasmi. Additional Attorney General Rana Waqar and Secretary Information Ahmad Nawaz Sukhara appeared in the court.
In this connection the court issued notices to former Information Minister Pervez Rashid, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Fawad Hassan Fawad, former Secretary Information Saba Mohsin including Ataul Haq Qasmi and others.
The court ordered that if Ataul Haq Qasmi appointment proved to be illegal then all the payments made to him will be recovered from the person responsible for his appointment. Chief Justice said that he has been paid Rs 270 million in two years
“Now some elements are saying that judicial activism is awful that should be closed down”CJP added.
He asked that why not Nawaz Sharif should be served a notice on the appointment of Qasmi?
Chief Justice said every position has some prerequisites and questioned why the post of MD PTV remained vacant for so long. Chief Justice questioned why was summary in this regard has been delayed. Chief Justice remarked that he feels this as a drama.
Chief Justice said that when one thing was not according to law why it was not said illegal.
Ahmad Nawaz Sukhara told the court that at present Information Secretary has the additional charge of MD PTV.
Public prosecutor Rana Waqar said only Attorney General and Qasmi should be served notices for hearing. To a question Sukhara said that Information Minister was Pervez Rashid.
After that the court sought replies from all the stake holders and adjourned the hearing till February 12.
