Karachi: Outdated Wadera system in the main hurdle to a rapid socioeconomic development of Sindh and these powerful feudal lords are mostly involved in very serious crimes in the rural areas of the province, said Pasban e Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor.
In a statement here on Thursday, he said that the recent murder of four people belonging to the Chandio community in Mehar town of Dadu district shows the power and influences being welded by the feudal lords in rural Sindh. He said officers of police, district administration and other department fully back the Waderas and the basic rights of the poor people are violated with full impunity.
He said that the role of Waderas could be found in almost all murder, rape and other such cases. He said from the case of Tania Khasekhli to Shumaila Abbasi the dirty hand of Wadera power is fully visible. He said these Waderas are also given party tickets and they easily reach assemblies and continue to loot and plunder the government resources. He said the corruption references filed against the elected members of Sindh also indicate that in this province there is an unholy nexus of Waderas, corruption mafia and ruling political parties. Altaf Shakoor said the Pasban from the day one has been struggling against the Wadera system in Sindh and it vows that whenever it came to power it would do away with feudalism and Wadera system by bringing drastic land reforms. He said besides wide-ranging land reforms, the province of Sindh also need reforms in police and district administration systems. He said Sindh, especially its rural areas need better education and healthcare facilities and for this we have been demanding for long to open at least one government-run university and one teaching hospital in each and every district of Pakistan, including Sindh, so that the basic facilities of life could also be provided to the rural population.
He said the rulers of Sindh are deliberately damaging agriculture sector of Sindh. They are reluctant to introduce modern technologies of drip irrigation, saline water cropping besides erecting small rainwater dams. He said irrigation system of Sindh also needs a complete overhauling and the government should not shy away from introducing water-efficient irrigation and canal system in the province.
