Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown will be observed, tomorrow, against the Indian brutalities and the ill-treatment meted out to the illegally-detained Kashmiris languishing in different jails in and outside the territory.
Call for the strike has been given by the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik. The leadership in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Indian government had launched malicious propaganda to mislead the international community as if peace and normalcy had returned to the territory. It said that forcing silence of graveyard by military might and naming it peace could only be termed as stupidity. The joint resistance leadership said that Indian army, paramilitary forces and police had turned Kashmir into a hell by killing, blinding and injuring thousands and ransacking properties worth millions and also by putting a blanket ban on all political activities.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar appealed to the international human rights organizations to take cognizance of rights violations perpetrated by Indian forces in the territory. He slammed the authorities for their apathetic and biased approach towards Kashmiri political prisoners.
The High Court Bar Association in a statement condemned the thrashing of Kashmiri prisoners in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail and asked the jail authorities to ensure safety and security of the prisoners at all costs. The lawyers’ body announced to abstain from court work, tomorrow, to record its protest against the ill-treatment of Kashmiri prisoners at the hands of jail authorities.
Meanwhile, Indian army, police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force continued cordon and search operation in Kupwara district. The troops blocked the roads and subjected all passenger and public vehicles to vigorous checking.
On the other hand, the authorities placed he Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest at his Nigeen residence in Srinagar, today. The detention comes a day ahead of the protest shutdown called by the Joint Resistance Leadership across the territory.
