Lahore : At least ten people died and several were injured due to dense fog and smog which is continued to paralyze daily routine in most parts of country including Sindh, Punjab and Peshawar.
In line with information received by the most parts of the country, due to dense fog and smog as many as ten people have lost their lives and several have received serious injuries during traffic incidents in Lahore, Hafizabad, Jhang, Vehari and Rajanpur while at least 12 people have been injured due to smog in said cities.
Traffic flow on Motorway remained affected by the high intensity of fog at morning time as drivers found it difficult to move due to less visibility.
Special instructions were also issued for travelers by Motorway police.
The flight schedule in Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad was affected by the weather condition while trains also faced delay in their operations.
Meanwhile, high transmission lines at Guddu Tharmal Power station tripped, causing load shedding in Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Sukkur and Quetta.
On the other hand, residents of various parts of the country including Karachi, Punjab and Peshawar continue to face health and commutation problems as smog engulfs most parts of the country.
According to Motorway officials, visibility has plunged to 30 meters from Thokar Niaz Baig to Chechawatni and 50m to 60m from Kot Moman to Syal Mor while 70m to 100m from Syal Mor to Khanqa Dogran as thick smog an unwanted by product of fog and pollution continued to persist in the air.
People may experience short-term skin and respiratory conditions such as eye irritation, coughing, throat/chest irritation and skin irritation as a result of smog.
Around 280000 peasants have been instructed to use alternative ways to burn their crops by the Minister of Environment Protection Zakia Shah Nawaz while Lahore West Management Company has cleaned the 17000km roads to avoid dust.
Dense foggy/smoggy conditions are expected over plain areas of Punjab and foggy over central and lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh while smog and fog will be eliminated only after rainfall.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of the country.
