ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has directed the relevant stakeholders to work together for securing greater access for Pakistani products in world markets.
He was chairing a meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday to review impact of GSP Plus regime on Pakistan’s trade.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the ministries of commerce and foreign affairs should jointly work for further cementing Pak-EU trade partnership.
On the overall impact of GSP Plus regime, the meeting expressed satisfaction over the upward trajectory in trade volume, which recorded an increase of 38.55 per cent since 2013.
The meeting was informed that the GSP Plus facility has enhanced eligibility of Pakistani products for duty free access on additional sixty-six per cent EU’s tariff lines and provided level playing field to Pakistani goods regarding similar products from competitors who have very liberal arrangements with the EU.
It was informed that various measures taken by the government, including setting up of a Treaty Implementation Cell, establishment of Independent National Commission on Human Rights, and several legislations, have contributed significantly in improving country’s image abroad.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for second biennial review of the GSP facility which will be held in January next year.
