Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee has strongly condemned the repeated imposition of curfew and restrictions in Srinagar and lockdown of city’s central mosque to disallow the people to offer Friday congregation prayers.

An AAC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar termed all these tactics an ultimate form of repression and political vendetta.

The spokesman said placing Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest over and over again thereby barring him from carrying out political, social and religious activities is aimed at putting him away from the people.

He said from over a decade history bears witness that the successive pro-Indian parties in power adopted oppressive measures to weaken the popular sentiment of the people by committing grave human right violations besides bloodshed.

Meanwhile, the forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement while saying that the Indian authorities were following policy of revenge against Mirwaiz termed his house detention as undemocratic. The forum said caging Mirwaiz has created problems for general public who are not allowed to meet him as he is not only a political but also a religious leader.
