RAWALPINDI: (Parliament Times) Cantonment Board (CB) Rawalpindi has increased residential, commercial property tax by 30 percent.
According to media reports property tax collection target has been set Rs 560 million by CB Rawalpindi for the current fiscal year. Therefore the CB has scaled up the property tax by 30 percent ahead of board meeting without seeking any approval from the elected representatives of people.
Commercial property tax has been enhanced by 30 percent and residential property tax has been increased by 20 percent. Traders have been served bills with increased ratio .
Focal person cantt board Qaisar Mehmood said that property tax is increased after every three years and the recent raise in tax is part of this plan. Proposal is under consideration for increasing commercial property tax by 30 percent and residential property tax by 20 percent. Its formal approval will be obtained in the meeting of the board on August, 25.
Citizens and traders community have voiced strong protest over increase in property tax by cantt board demanding of the board authorities to withdraw their decision for enhancement of property tax otherwise they will be forced to go to streets.
