ISLAMABAD :(Parliament Times) In its verdict on Tuesday, the Supreme Court has dismissed Hussain Nawaz’s plea against leakage of a CCTV image of his appearance before the joint investigation team (JIT) probing Panama Papers case against the Sharif family.

While terming the plaintiff’s reservations ‘baseless’, the apex court declared that culprits behind photo leak have already been identified after an inquiry.

Usage of technology for correction of record is not prohibited, however, video recording cannot be used as evidence, the court remarked.

Justice Ijaz-ul-Hassan warned to not make the case ‘media circus’ and also asked the government spokesman to talk carefully. He said that the court doesn’t want to hide judicial proceeding as it is not afraid of anyone.

Meanwhile, Justice Azmat Saeed remarked that government publishes article in its favor.

We are not immature that we cannot understand anything, he added.

In his petition on June 7, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son had claimed that the photo leak was against ethical and legal codes, adding that recording videos of the JIT’s proceedings was similar to “pressurising” witnesses appearing before the investigation team.

He had requested the court to stop the JIT from recording videos of the proceedings to ensure transparency in the investigation.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Talal Chaudhry said that we will raise our legal reservations. He said that it’s our right to know about the one who had leaked the picture.

Some people want to disqualify all the leaders of PML-N, he alleged.

Talking to media outside the court, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry said that government is trying to affect JIT proceeding with such tactics. He said that PTI will protect both democracy and system as it has always struggled for civil supremacy.

A campaign was initiated against judiciary on the leakage of Hussain Nawaz’s picture but PTI will not let anyone to derail the system, he added.
