BIRMINGHAM: Pakistan’s captain Sarfraz Ahmed was a relieved man on Wednesday after Pakistan’s win against South Africa by 19 runs at Edgbaston.
Pakistan registered first win in the ICC Champions Trophy on D/L method after rain forced an early abandonment of the match with Pakistan 19 runs ahead of the par score.
Sarfraz told media after the win that it was a collective team effort with improved bowling and fielding performance.
“Credit goes to the team, every player played his part with bowlers and fielders did the best to the team,” he said.
When a journalist asked the Pakistani captain about the efforts implemented to improve the standard of fielding, the young wicket-keeper batsman replied that the team actually did nothing.
“Rain did not allow us to do fielding practice, so we actually did nothing,” responded Sarfraz, to make everyone in the press conference laugh.
Pakistan is now at third position in the group and has one more match to go in the tournament and Sarfraz was hopeful that Pakistan would make it to semi-finals.
“We will try to keep the momentum going, the team has clicked at the right time,” he said.
He also hailed the young debutant Fakhar Zaman and said the opening batsman has a good future.
“I knew about Fakhar’s ability as we used to play in same club but let’s not put too much pressure on him as it is just the start of his career,” Sarfraz said.
