Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, thousands of people defying curfew and other restrictions participated in the funeral prayers of top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad Butt and his associate Faizan Ahmed in T ral area of Pulwama district.
Despite restrictions and heavy deployment of Indian forces’ personnel, people from different areas of the territory, today, made their way into Tral to participate in the last rites of Sabzar Ahmad Butt who was a close associate of charismatic commander Burhan Wani. Because of huge gathering, the funeral prayers of Sabzar were held at least seven times.
Sabzar Ahmad Butt was buried amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans at his ancestral village Ratsuna in Tral.
People also offered funeral prayers of Sabzar Ahmad Butt in absentia across the territory. One such funeral was held in Nowhatta area of Srinagar. Many mourners were injured in clashes with police after the funeral prayers.
The funeral prayers of Faizan Ahmed, 16, were held at Darul Uloom road in Tral, last evening. Mourners drove in thousands to the town to have a last glimpse of the young martyr. The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Mohammad Yasin Malik addressed the mourners on the occasion.
Local mosques were reverberating with pro-Islam and pro-freedom slogans as Faizan Ahmed Butt, the only son of his parents, was buried amid sobs and tears next to Burhan’s grave at Eidgah in Tral.
Indian army had, yesterday, claimed that Sabzar and Faizan were killed during an encounter at Saimoh in Tral area of Pulwama district, but independent sources said they were first arrested by Indian troops and later killed in custody.
