Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, Indian police have arrested dozens of youth during continued nocturnal raids in various villages of Shopian district.

The residents of villages including Gagren, Meminder, Rawalpora, Dangam and Kanji Ullar told media persons that dozens of youth have been arrested by the police after barging into their houses during night raids.

“The nocturnal raids by police have created panic among people as the men in uniform not only barge into the houses, but also damage windows, windowpanes and doors of the houses,” a group of villagers said.

The residents of Rawalpora said that scores of youth in the village have gone into hiding after recent raids. “Many persons were detained during the raids after their sons were not found at home,” they said.

Most of the villagers said that the police detained youth without any reason. “They detain young boys and then ask for hefty money for their release,” the villagers pointed out.
