Islamabad: (parliament times) As many as 154 out of 777
sanctioned posts of nurses are lying vacant in The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad.
According to International standards, one nurse is required
to be appointed to look after 10 beds in a hospital and
on the other hand one nurse is working to look after 25
beds in PIMS.
As per international criterion one nurse is must to look
after patient against one bed in emergency, ICU and trauma
centre in every hospital but in PIMS one nurse is
discharging her duty against 3 beds.

The reason behind the lack of nurses is stated that the
vacant posts pertain to the nurses quota allocated for
Sindh, Balochistan and KP . The nurses of these provinces
are either not available or they are not interested to
serve in Islamabad.

Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University Vice Chancellor
Dr Javed Akram said that they have already given an
advisement in Newspaper for appointment of nurses against
vacant posts. As soon as the posts are filled in, the woes of patients will stand alleviated.
