Bagh: (Parliament Times)  Pakistan Red Crescent (PRC) has established District Branch Bagh for effective community resilience, Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR), health & hygiene, Mine Risk Education (MRE), First Aid and Restoring Family Link (RFL) programs with the support of international donors. PRC Chairman Dr Saeed Elahi laid the foundation stone of PRC District Branch Bagh. Secretary General Ghulam Muhammad Awan, PRC AJK Branch ChairmanZahid Ali Shah, Secretary AJK State Branch YasirManzoor, and Deputy Commissioner Bagh Ch. Guftar Hussain were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Saeed Elahi said that PRC will continue playing its role for the betterment of the people of AJK. He said that the establishment of PRC district branch will be a permanent network in Bagh to assist families across LoC. “The establishment of district branch Bagh beside the presence of AJK State branch at Muzaffarabad, is an example that PRC is always there to support those who need the most”, Saeed Elahi said.
Dr Saeed Elahi said that all aforementioned PRC initiatives are running successfully in three divisions of AJK including Mirpur, Poonch and Muzaffarabad. He said more than 45,000 people in 10 districts of AJK have benefitted from PRC programs and the number of beneficiaries is continuously rising as the organization extending its network throughout the state.
Speaking at the occasion, Secretary General PRC Ghulam Muhammad Awan said that establishment of PRC district branch Bagh will provide cover to all vulnerable people of the district. “By distributing relief items among the affected families of LoC, PRC has proved that its connection with the people of AJK is imperative and long-lasting and it will further strengthen in days to come,” he added.
Addressing the participants of the ceremony, Chairman PRC AJK Branch Zahid Ali Shah said that PRC is strengthening the community resilience through enhancing Emergency Operation (EO), Urban Disaster Response Teams (UDRT) and Districts Disaster Response Teams (DDRT) of AJKHQ. “We will continue supporting the people of AJK and will leave no stone unturned in expanding our humanitarian services to the vulnerable population living in far flung areas of the state,” he added.
Earlier, Yasir Manzoor Secretary PRC AJK State Branch welcomed the participants and highlighted the on-going programs in AJK. He said today we achieved another milestone by laying the foundations of PRC building in Bagh. Yasir said we are thankful to PRC national headquarter and International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for supporting us in the construction of building in Bagh.
