Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the authorities imposed curfew like restrictions in Srinagar and other parts of the territory to prevent marches, seminars, gatherings and student meetings on the occasion of Jammu massacre carried out by Hindu fascist forces on this day in 1947.
The joint Hurriyet leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had announced the programmes to remember victims of Jammu massacre, narrate and educate the youth with the real history of this organised carnage of Muslims by Indian state and Hindu Dogra ruler.
Jammu massacre is the least known genocides in modern history when 500,000 Muslims were killed by the forces of Maharaja Hari Singh, Indian army and Hindu extremists in different parts of Jammu region on November 6 with such a military precision that it is difficult to find its traces, except in the memories of the survivors, and the tales of horror they passed on to their next generations. The aim was to change the demographic composition of Jammu & Kashmir by eliminating the Muslim population. Such was the intensity of carnage that in Jammu province about 123 villages were completely depopulated.
Indian police and paramilitary personnel were deployed in strength in Srinagar and other districts of the territory to stop people from holding programmes.
