Muzaffarabad: The twenty ninth death anniversary of a prominent Kashmiri leader and Former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir K.H. Khurshid was observed throughout Azad Jammu and Kashmir today.
Functions and Seminars were held at all district headquarters to pay homage to the services of renowned Kashmiri leader. In the State capital Muzaffarabad a function was held at the Mazar of K.H.Khushid under the auspices of Kashmir Liberation cell.
AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan was the Chief Guest of the function. Speaking on the occasion Raja Farooq Haider Khan said that K. H. Khursheed devoted his whole life for the liberation of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and set an example of honesty, political sagacity truthfulness.
He said that late leader has not only the honor of working with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah during Pakistan movement but he was also the first elected President of the state. Raja Farooq Haider Khan said K. H. Khursheed was strong voice of Kashmiri people who highlighted Kashmir issue in its true perspective at International fora. He paid rich tributes to Late K.H. Khursheed for promoting the political process and strengthening the democratic institutions in the liberated territory.
Other speakers including president Jammu and Kashmir Liberation League Chief Justice (Reted) Abdul Majeed Malik, Khawaja Farooq ahmed, Dr Misfar Hussan, Secretary General JKLL, Khawaja Manzoor Qadir Advocate, JI leader Qazi Shahid Hamid, Shoukat Javed Mir, Humayun Zaman Mirza, Begum Tanveer Latif, Sheikh Abdul Qayyum, Khawaja Abdul Ghani, Zahid Akram, APHC leader Abdul Hamid Loan and others paid glowing tributes for the meritorious services of Mr Khurshid for Kashmir cause and constitutional and democratic rights of the AJK people.
They said the best way to pay tributes to the late leader was to implement his ideology so that the slavery of Kashmiris could be brought to end at the earliest. They said Khurshid was a great leader who practiced and promoted politics of principles and ideology throughout his life, they said, recalling that he was the first elected president in AJK after he introduced democracy in the state in 1961, apart from other reforms.
They pointed out that bilateralism had failed to resolve the festering Kashmir issue in the face of India’s intransigence, and therefore the issue should be settled in line with the recognised UN resolutions, enunciating right of self-determination of Kashmiri people.
The speakers said that international community has admitted the fact that early peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue is central to the emergence of lasting peace as well as long-lasting socio economic progress and prosperity both in India and Pakistan,†he said, asking both countries to do the needful to resolve the issue in line with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people. Earlier Quran Khawani and Fateh Khawani were held at the Mazar of the late Kashmiri leader in Muzaffarabad. Special prayers were offered for the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan and early liberation of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
