Rawalpindi: (Parliament Times) The participants of Awareness Seminar about 16 Days Activism on Gender based violence has stressed on promotion of education about the rights of women and laid emphasis to the civil society and government representatives to highlight gender based violence issues in every platform to ensure social justice and equality.
This was stated by Member Punjab Assembly Mrs. Tehsheen Fawad, Divisional Director Social Welfare Rawalpindi Mr. Muhammad Aslam Maita, Anees Jilani, Manager Sanat e Zar Mrs. Talat Shabir, Amir Shah, Divisional Coordinator Punjab Commission on the Status of Women Rana Qaiser, Head of Programmes Islamic Relief Zain ul Abdeen, Shahida Rani Manager Child and Welfare Programme and Afshan Jamal while addressing to the seminar held at District Industrial Home, Rawalpindi on “Ending Gender Based Violence through Education” organized by Islamic Relief-Pakistan in collaboration with Social Welfare Department on Friday. The seminar was attended by government officials, civil society organizations, social welfare volunteers, academia and students.
Addressing on the occasion, Mrs. Tehseen Fawad MPA appreciated the valuable contributions of Islamic Relief with regard to its vigorous campaign to sensitize the masses as well as related organizations about gender equality and said that Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Mr. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has adopted special initiatives to provide adequate opportunities of education, health, social uplift and employment to women in the Province. She also mentioned that legislation has been made in Punjab Assembly to protect the rights of women by seeking cooperation of civil society and other all other concerns. Rana Qaiser informed that Women Commission engaged to bring all those under the clutches of law who had been indulged in violation of laws promulgated by the Provincial Cabinet to eliminate gender based violence.
Head of Programmes Islamic Relief Zain ul Abdeen said that Islamic Relief is working for human development in collaboration with 2,600 male and female participatory community organization with the objectives to ensure gender equality. It was informed that 8 million effects of natural calamity had been benefited through Islamic Relief programmes since 1992.
The speakers shed light on the status of women and gender based violence and shared their views that how can we improve the status of women through education. On this occasion art work on gender based violence of Islamic Relief supported children were acknowledged and appreciated, certificates were distributed. An exhibition on the subject was also displayed on the occasion.
