ISLAMABAD : Corruption is the root cause of all ills which hinders not only economic and social progress of a country but
also causes concentrating national wealth in few hands. Deserving is deprived from thier due rights and country’s system faces numerous problems due to this plague being confronted by the country. A nation only progresses after overcoming corruption. The basic aim of establishing NAB is to make efforts to eliminate corruption and punish the corrupt.NAB has devised a comprehensive strategy to enhance awareness about the harms of corruption, a sociaty has to endure.
NAB’s strategy of eliminating the corruption has already been
acknowledged by all and sundry. NAB is working under National Accountability Ordinance 1999. Its jurisdication is spread across the country including erstwhile Fata.NAB’s headquarter is in Islamabad.Regional offices are situated in Rawalpindi, Lahore,Karachi,Peshawar,Multan, Sukkar,Quetta and Gilgit-Baltistan. Justice Javed assumed the coveted post of Chairman on October 11, 2017. NAB has apprehended 476 persons in last 11 months, complaint verification was conducted against 216 persons,inquiries were conducted against 239 persons, investigation were conducted against 79, reference was filed against 340 persons in various
ccountability courts. NAB has managed to convict 72 corrupt
persons from relevant courts. NAb has also deposited Rs 2,410.250
million in national exchequer in the last 11 months. NAB has also
recovered the looted amount from various housing societies and
returned to the affectees including various government
departments.This act of NAB was lauded by all segments of society.
Justice Javed Iqbal not only personaly hears people’s complaints
related to corruption on last Thursday of every month but also
established Complaint Cells at all regional bureaus. NAB also
maintains a computerised record of all complaints received. NAB has so far received 394,000 complaints.Out of which complaint verification of 13,081 has been conducted, NAB has conducted over 8,000 inquiries, 4,001 investigations, as many as 3,386 corruption references were filed in various accountability courts. A total of 1,219 references involving the corruption of Rs 895.279 million are still under trial in various accountability courts. NAB is soon submitting applicationsin various NAB courts seeking early hearing of corruption reference pending there. NAB has so far deposited Rs 297 billion in the national exchequer since its inception. NAB officers have not only retained a single rupee of the recovered amount but deposited the whole recovered amount in national exchequer and returned to the affectees.This
proves hard working, dedication and honesty of NAB officers and
officials. On the directives of Chairman Justice Javed Iqbal, NAB has also started to review the annual performance of its officers. A comprehensive grading system has also been started to further improve the performance of NAB staff. Under the system the annual performance of regional bureaus were being reviewed.The staff is informed about thier merits and demerits but also warned to improve their shortcomings. NAB has devised an impressive monitoring and evaluation system. The system helps disposing of complaints and completing the process from complaint verification to filing a corruption reference in the accountability court within a period of only 10 months.The ratio of punishing an accused is 77 percent which is execptional. NAB has also constituted a total of 50,000 societies in various colleges and universities for enhancing awareness about various harmful effects of corruption in society. Societies are playing their role in elimination of corruption and enhancing awareness against corruption in the society. Chairman NAB Justice Javed, having immaculate reputation has played a vital role in improving the performance of NAB. He takes action against corruption complaints on merit and without any discrimination.
NAB does not believe in taking revenge against anyone. He has strictly directed the staff to give honour and respect to every complainant visiting NAB. Investigation should be conducted from all accused as per law. According to Pildat survery NAB enjoys the support of 42 percent people. Same survey shows that other such investigative organisations has the support of 30 percent people.
According to Transparency International Pakistan ranked 116 in corruption perception index from out of a total of 175 countries. This ranking was achieved in 20 years due to the efforts of NAB.
The excellent achievement of NAB is the result of hardworking of its staff, as chairman NAB believes on teamwork. Justice Javed is performing his duties honestly and on merit.He also directs his subordinates to ensure merit, honesty in their workings. The thinks the elimination of corruption is his national duty. He has so far performed his duties purely on merit sans caring about position or status. He has taken action against the corrupt elements purely on merit. He neither favours anyone no do any accesses against the corrupt. The positive results of NAB’s corruption elimination has started pouring in.The target of NAB to eliminate corruption is difficult, but Chairman NAB is hopeful of achieving the target. NAB was doing utmost to eliminaten corruption from the society. It is hoped that corruption would be exterminated from the country due to successful strategy of NAB.Pakistan would emerge as progressive and prosperous country.
