Rawalpindi: (Parliament Times) In order to ensure Rawalpindi a polio free district, five-days anti-polio drive will kick off from January1 5 and continue till January 19 of the same month.
This was told by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Health Authority Muhammad Sohail Ahmed Chaudhry to a meeting, which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Talat Mehmood Gondal here Wednesday. District Officer Health Dr. Abdul Jabbar, Dr. Sarwat coordinator WHO, Dr. Amir Sheikh, AC Kahuta Ansar Hayat, AC Cant Amber Gillani, DDHOs, representative of Allied departments and other concerned officers were also present in the meeting.
The meeting was told that 8,40,000 children below the age of five would be administered with polio drops. It was further told that 221 UC monitoring officers and 496 area-incharge have been appointed who will administer polio drops.
Moreover, 2333 mobile teams and 287 fixed points and 119 transit points have been established. CEO health further added that total 2739 teams have been designated for this task and health officer will monitor the progress of campaign and security of polio workers is arranged as well.
Deputy Commissioner Tallat Mehmood Gondal said that even though environmental sample of November and December 2017 are declared negative but with the dawn of new-year we need to renew our pledge to work with more dedication to eradicate Polio.
He directed to devise a fresh plan with new set targets keeping in view the shortcomings and limitations of previous year and issue fresh SOPs also ensure their implementation.
Although there are only 05 cases of polio in Pakistan, it still stands among three countries (Afghanistan, Nigeria, Pakistan) worldwide that are not declared polio free yet, he shared. He said that along-with all government initiatives, active participation of parents is needed to make this campaign successful. He also directed to establish a monitoring mechanism for this campaign and ordered to submit daily report to his office.
