Islamabad: A multidisciplinary MoU was signed between United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) at the main campus of the NUST. Lt Gen Naweed Zaman, HI(M), (Retd), Rector NUST, and Ms Nadia Aftab, UNIDO Country Representative, were present at the ceremony, along with NUST team including Pro-rectors, senior department heads and associates, and representatives from UNIDO team comprising of all coordinators of projects. The purpose of the cooperation under this MoU is to complement the organisations’ areas of expertise in industrial development, especially Cluster Development Initiative (CDI) for Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Areas of collaboration will also include industry-specific research, professional development trainings and policy analysis.
Speaking at the occasion, Rector NUST said that NUST valued its partnership with UNIDO, adding both organisations aimed to establish UNIDO-NUST InnoHub at National Science & Technology Park being set up at NUST. He maintained that the InnoHub would aim at promoting R&D, specifically addressing the needs of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The Rector further said that UNIDO, under the CDI with the Punjab Government, has engaged NUST to carry out interaction with Sialkot-based SMEs in surgical cluster, and recommend measures to develop it.
The UNIDO Country Representative also expressed UNIDO’s interest to strengthen ties with NUST in multiple domains, including joint R&D projects, provision of consultancy services in multiple domains, student job placement, and InnoHub at NSTP.
