Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) has turned down former state minister for interior Talal Chaudhry plea seeking adjournment of hearing of contempt of court case against him after general election-2018.
The court has fixed the contempt of court case for hearing on June 28.
A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Gulzar Ahmad took up for hearing contempt of court case against Talal Chaudhry Thursday.
Kamran Murtaza counsel for Talal Chaudhry told the court that he apologizes for not appearing in the court on previous hearing due to his sickness and marriage of two nieces.
Justice Gulzar Ahmad remarked ” witness is present. His statement should be got recorded”.
General Manager (GM) PEMRA Muhammad Tahir appeared as witness in the court.
Kamran Murtaza questioned from general manager PEMRA ” You have been working as general manager PEMRA since when”.
Muhammad Tahir told that he has been working as GM PEMRA since 2015.
Justice Gulzar Ahmad remarked donít ask irrelevant questions from the witness.
GM PEMRA told the court no complaint was received in PEMRA against Talal Chaudhry.
Kamran Murtaza questioned did he give the reply in regard to Talal Chaudhry letter after checking the record.
Muhammad Tahir told that he gave reply after checking the record.
Additional Attorney General (AAG) Amir Rehman said “I want to ask question from the witness as prosecution”.
Justice Faisal Arab remarked, the counsel for the accused has not asked any question. You have to ask what in the question.
AAG said ” I have to ask the question from the witness about the correctness of the record”.
Witness Muhammad Tahir told the court no one lodged complaint against Talal Chaudhry on insulting statements. Complaints were received in PEMRA against statements of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.
Prosecution counsel questioned if the transcripts of insulting speeches of Talal Chaudhry are correct.
The witness replied “verifying the transcript is not my job. Monitoring section can verify transcript”.
Following the completion of statement by GM PEMRA Tahir the court inquired about other witnesses from Kamran Murtaza.
Kamran Murtaza said the other witnesses could not come due to Eid holidays.
Justice Gulzar Ahmad remarked “Eid holidays have come to end”.
The counsel for Talal Chaudhry prayed for fixing the case for hearing after July 25.
Justice Gulzar Ahmad remarked we have to decide this case too. We can not adjourn the case beyond July 25.
Talal Chaudhry requested for fixing the case for hearing after election.
Justice Gulzar Ahmad remarked ” you are a politician. You can do several works at a time”. We will dispose of the case within a few days.
The court while giving exemption from appearance in next hearing to Talal Chaudhry adjourned the hearing of the case till June, 28.
