ZHOB (Rafiullah Mandokhail): As the Election Commission of Pakistan has fixed Tuesday the deadline for submitting polling schemes, District Returning Officer (District and Session Judge) Nasir Khan Yousafzai, Returning Officer (Judicial Magistrate) Asmatullah and Assistant Returning Officer (Tehsildar) Abdul Ahad Sherani visited the proposed polling stations in both rural and urban areas of the district to avoid any inconvenience in the gigantic exercise under Election Act of ECP for the general election 2018.
The DRO, RO and ARO visited all the proposed polling buildings and inspected the missing facilities, increasing number of polling booths and checked whether the buildings could be use as polling stations or not. Education Officer Muhammad Meer Mandokhail also accompanied the returning officers. Agriculture office, Degree boys’ college, Irrigation office, B&R office, Education office, Model school, Nasarabad girls’ school, New Town school, Nasarabad boys’ school, City girls’ school and other government buildings in urban and rural areas have been proposed to function as polling stations during the forthcoming polls.
In order to facilitate the voters in most populated areas the DRO increased the number of booths at some polling stations, while Forest office polling station has been replaced with Special school polling station. The ECP has proposed setting up one to four polling booths for each polling station in the constituency.
ECP’s guidelines stated that the polling station has to be located in government buildings except security agency office including police and Levies stations. In case of non-availability of a government building in the area, an improvised station on a public property may be used for the purpose. According to the law, the RO is responsible for the scrutiny of nomination papers of every candidate, prescribing the number of polling stations and polling staff required in his allotted electoral constituency, moreover inspecting the buildings to be used as polling stations and appointing presiding officers at the polling stations.
