Sargodha: Sargodha University established a field hospital in its Medical College, as the frontline
health services become overwhelmed from the corona virus pandemic over the coming weeks.
The hospital has the capacity to house about 80 patients at least.
Vice Chancellor Sargodha University Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad along with the Deputy Commissioner Sargodha Abdullah
Nayyar visited the hospital on Monday.
Dr Humaira Akram, the Principal Sargodha Medical College and Mubashar Tariq, the Director Implementation
briefed the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Commissioner about the arrangements for medical and paramedical staff
and all other facilities provided at the hospital. A high dependency unit will also work 24/7 in the hospital, they
informed.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor said that Sargodha University is the first public sector university to
build field hospital for corona patients. The hospital was built on very short notice and equipped with all the
facilities where doctors and Paramedics from SMC will perform their duties round the clock.
“These are extraordinary times. We could face the single biggest health crisis in living memory,” he said adding
that all the staffers have been directed to play their role in testing time.
Appreciating the efforts and community services of Sargodha University, the Deputy Commissioner Sargodha
said that the role of doctors and paramedics from SMC will be remembered ever and the district administration
will also cooperate with them.
It is worth mentioning that the Agricultural College and the Medical College of the university is also hosting
quarantine centers of 237 beds and 660 beds respectively which is biggest number in any public sector university
across the country.
