Islamabad: Fire and Disaster Management department of Metropolitan is said to have an alarming number of less working-condition fire extinguishing tools as it is not able to cope with any emergency situation even in the high profile buildings of the Supreme Court, Prime Minister Secretariat, and President House.
Capital Development Authority had informed PM House several times but no attention was paid on provision and up-gradation of fire tenders and fire hydrants.
Metropolitan Corporation also expressed disability in provision of fire fightening instruments due to lack of funds.
CDA has five fire hydants, 24 big and 5 medium fire tenders vehicles, one rescue truck, and 4 ambulances were also present at DMA but out of 5 fire hydants only 2 and out of 24 fire tenders, only 5 fire tenders were operational besides 2 ambulances out of 4.
However, the remaining machinery is non-operational since the last 4 years.
Money amounting to Rs 1 billion 800 million was issued several times for mechanical repairing of dysfunctional machinery but no maintenance was made in 3 fire hydants and 19 fire tenders.
When CDA asked from former director DMA about defectiveness of respective machinery he then informed former Chairman CDA Maroof Afzal that whatever fire tenders they have, they were not able to provide appropriate service during any emergency situation.
Ex chairman CDA had demanded required amount for repairing and maintenance of fire and fighter and vehicles from director DMA who later send a summary of total expenditures worth Rs 3 billion, 1 billion for tools maintenance and 2 billion for vehicles to finance department CDA but authority had not required the amount at that time.
Later summary was sent to federal government for solution of the problem forthwith but government of that time instead of allotting the required amount dispose of the summary into mourn.
Incumbent caretaker Chairman directed DMA that he should write a letter to federal government seeking release of fund Worth Rs 3 billion for up gradation of important machinery and vehicles to cope emergency situation during fire incidents and happenings but federal government rather to issue funds expressed displeasure over it replied that if any letter lower than grade 20 officer sends then strict action will be taken against those found involved in the matter.
According to the report, most number of vehicles present at Disaster Management Authority is dysfunctional and not able to perform in any emergency or danger situation.
It has been said in the report that if any emergency situation happens in federal capital then federal government or CDA will have no such machinery to overcome this catastrophe due to negligence of Capital Development Authority and Metropolitan.
It has been further said in the report that if government didn’t pay attention towards this big issue and not issue funds for the up gradation of the machinery then it himself will responsible for damage.
