MIRPUR (AJK), (Parliament Times) : Atleast 22 Kashmiri persons. mostly school children, are feared dead when a boat, they were aboard, capsized while crossing Jehlum river from Gandabal Soiteng to Batawara in Indian Illegally occupied Jammu Kashmir state Tuesday morning, says a report reaching here Tuesday from a Ross the line of control.
“4 people were rescued in critical condition and three bodies were retrieved sofar and 19 were still missing till the last reports came in”, the report said adding that rescue operation, mostly by locals, was underway
Jhelum river, emerging from higher reaches of IIOJK. has risen and ooded following recent torrential rains in the Indian occupied part of the Jammu and Kashmir state. A total of 26 ill-fated persons were crossing the river aboard the boat which capsized while reaching middle of the river becoming the victim of the sharp currents of the fast-flowing ancient river.
“A total of 22 unfortunate Kashmiris out of a total of 26 people on board of the ill fated boat are feared dead”, the report categorically stated. More details are awaited.
