Rawalpindi, (Parliament Times) : In the last five days, the crackdown against profiteers has been accelerated in Rawalpindi due to the start of the month of Ramazan, during which 143 profiteers have been arrested and a fine of Rs 1.34 mullions has been imposed on 479 others. Five shops have been sealed and 10 cases have been registered.

This was informed by Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema during a meeting. The performance of price magistrates was reviewed in detail in the meeting.
Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema said that the highest violation of government rates across the district was reported in the Rawalpindi city area where 47 profiteers were arrested in the last five days, three shops were sealed and 210 profiteers were fined three lakh and 35 thousand rupees. He said that 13 profiteers were arrested in Rawalpindi Cantt and one FIR has been registered while a fine of Rs 177,000 has been imposed. He said that a fine of two lakh 47 thousand rupees has been imposed on 128 shopkeepers for getting illegal profits from citizens in the Rawalpindi Sadar area.
The Deputy Commissioner said that seven profiteers have been arrested in Tehsil Gujar Khan, cases have been registered against five shopkeepers and a fine of two lakh and two thousand rupees has been imposed. He said that 21 and 22 profiteers have been arrested in Kahutta and Kallar Syedan respectively, and fines of 75 thousand and 500 rupees and 99 thousand rupees have been imposed. He said that 33 shopkeepers have been arrested in Taxila for getting illegal profits and cases have been registered against four, while 27 shopkeepers have been fined Rs 2 lakh and 11 thousand.
Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema said that the number of price magistrates in the Rawalpindi district has increased and in the coming days more strict measures will be taken to control prices and action will also be taken against the price magistrates who are guilty of negligence and irresponsibility.
