Muzaffarabad, (Parliament Times) : Prime Minister Ch. Anwarul Haq, while urging the United Nations to take effective notice of India’s expansionist designs in the region, has said that it was high time that the highest body took tangible measures to help implement its resolutions on Kashmir so that the Kashmiri people could decide their political future.

Reacting to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to occupied Kashmir, the AJK premier said India cannot mislead the world community by pedaling lies and baseless narratives.

Referring to the disputed nature of the Kashmir issue, the PM said that, as per the international covenants, India cannot change the status of the disputed territory unilaterally.

Terming the abolition of Articles 370 and 35A by India as a flagrant violation of the UNSC resolutions, he said that India’s 5th August move was the worst example of fascism.

Denouncing the Indian prime Minister’s visit to IoK, he said that the Modi government was trying to mislead the world about the situation in Kashmir by faking normalcy and development. Referring to the worsening political and human rights situation in the restive region, Prime Minister Haq said that ground reality in Kashmir belies the Indian claims of so-called normalcy in the held territory.

“An unannounced curfew has been imposed in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir on Modi’s visit”, the PM said, adding that on the one hand, Modi talks about normalcy and development, while on the other, enforced disappearances, bloodshed, and violence continue unabated. “Innocent youth are being killed day in and day out by the military during cordon and search operations”, he said.”Along with a social and cultural onslaught, the Modi government has intensified its efforts to change the region’s demography and its political landscape’, the PM said.

Terming Kashmiris’ ongoing liberation struggle as a legitimate political movement, he said that the world should appreciate the Kashmiris’ peaceful struggle for the right to self-determination. He said that it was incumbent upon the International human rights organizations to highlight the plight of Kashmiris.

Lauding the Kashmiris’ struggle and sacrifices, the PM said that the day was not far away when the people of Kashmir would achieve their cherished goal of freedom.
