There is a strong relationship between psychology and literature and they cannot be seen in isolation without culture and heritage of a country. Let us discuss them individually. Psychology basically tells about a human being and in the same vein literature also discusses about history and the various ages and the relation of human being with others in such periods. Psychology treats a person in an objective manner while literature deals in a subjective way. The role of both is the same. I.e. learning about the situation of human being and the way he acts in different situations. Psychology too studies a man with respect to his culture. It doesn’t deny his importance. Here different schools of thought converge and seem to have a consensus on a pertinent fact that it is very difficult to learn about human being without exploring his psychological makeup. We also know another dimension that culture and language is concerned with what changes we perceive in the ways of people and how they modify with the passage of time. There is a reflection of culture and tradition in the literature. There is a reflection of desires and aspirations also. We witness the concepts and ideologies of people relating to the future. The Urdu literature which is written in Pakistan, in it we see the social aspects and the traces of culture of Pakistan. We come across a society which has developed after 1947. It enables us to get an insight about the metamorphosis our society underwent in different years. How we have to perceive the things we know. How we have to manage the things we learn through literature. Literature is a great source of preserving the heritage. If we read the literature of a century ago, we would know about what kind of social life style used to prevail. Hence it is a great source of knowing about the past people. Pakistan is a very rich area for having the civilizations of Mohinjo Daro, Harappa, Taxilla and Mehar Garh. The remains of these areas tell us that these areas played a vital role in the development of human civilization. We get to know about the painting art of that time, the utensils, the writings which are brought to us through digging tell a lot about that time. Mustansir Hussain Tarar’s novel famous novel Bahau tells us about the civilization of Cholistan, a civilization which got eradicated after the river water evaporated. Likewise Razia Fasih Ahmad indicates about the cultural development of the centuries in her novel, ‘ Sadion ki zanjeer’. Through literature a writer can be able to preserve the elements of a particular time on a conscious level so that it can serve the purpose of food for thought for the generations to come. The writers also take into consideration the current situation thus it has a great influence on the hearts and minds of the people. When we read some book , whether it is part of curriculum or is in the form of stories, prose or poetry, it goes on adding up to our nurturing. Hence culture, psychology, literature all have a correlation of a unique type and the importance of all these disciplines is above board in adding quality to our heritage and culture. They go on making it rich, versatile and impart a colour to that. Inspired by Dr Amjad Tufail
