Wagner group was established in 2014 and took part in the annexation of Crimea. It is a private army that portrays itself as mercenary. It has been a main pollar of Ukrain war and was on the frontline to occupy the Donabas region. The Wagner forces were deployed in Syria, Africa, and supported Khalifa Haftar forces in Libya. This group has been alleged for human rights violations Libya, Ukraine, Syria, and Africa. In 2021, the EU also passed a resolution condemning its human rights violations.
This group has been involved in Gold mines business in Africa. The numbers of Wagner forces are 40 to 50 thousand. Most of the recruitmed forces are under debt, unemployed, and belong to poor families which have been trained by Russian army. It will not be wrong to say that the Wanger group is the Blackwater of Russia. This group got its name from Wagner who was a Russian commander of Russia in Chechnya. Prigozine is the leader of Wagner
In 1981 who was caught stealing when he was at his 20s, for which he was sentenced for 9 years. He later on started hotel business in 1990s and was famous for hot dog selling in flea market. In 2001, he served food to Putin personally. In 2012, he started supplying food to Russian army of around 1.2 billion USD per year. In 2014 he joined Wagner group
A week before, this group rised against the Kremlin and alleged that its forces have been attacked and killed by Russian air force. Though, the causes of differences are unknown yet. They have been alleging the Defense minister for not providing arms and ammunition to the Wagner army in Ukrain at a crucial time when the war was at its peak. Consequently, this group occupied Russian main military headquarter in Rostov and started march towards Moscow. In the meanwhile, the president of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has mediated between Putin amd Prigozine as a result a deal has been struck. The Wagner forces have ended their March towards Moscow while, Prigozine has fled to Belsurus in exile.
During the uprising Russian president Vladimir Putin has called Prigozine as traitor. Sources say that though Prigozine was a close ally of Putin but he was not in Putin inner circle. This had made him annoyed. Whereas, there is no clue available in the involvement of foreign hands yet. The current rebellion took place in crucial time when Russia has invaded Ukraine, when its economy is in deep trouble, and when new alignments are in the making. Will this be a drop of hope to dethrone Putin? Will Putin use iron hand against Prigozine and his colleagues once the Russia Ukraine war is ended? The scenario is gloomy but two things are clear that if Putin is survives and rules for some years, the fate of Wagner leaders and reforms in the group will ultimately take place.
