MIRPUR (AJK), (Parliament Times) : “Infamous Indian Investigative outfit – Indian Investigative Agency (NIA) in Ullegally Indian-Occupied Jammu is increasingly trying to legitimize its brutal suppression of any form of resistance to the occupation of Kashmir”, Istanbul – based Kashmir Diaspora Coalition (KDC) Forum reports
With the brazen custodial murders of Syed Ali Geelani and Asraf Sahrai, two prominent resistance leaders, India is continuing to silence any resistance to its illegal occupation of Kashmir by murdering yet another distinguished Kashmiri political leader/prisoner – Yaseen Malik, members of the Coalition (KDC) feared, says a message reaching and released to the media here on Monday said.
“What is concerning is the exponential rise in political elimination in occupied Kashmir. Other jailed political leaders such as MasratAlam, Asiya Andrabi, Qasim Faktoo, Shabir Shah, Nahida Nasreen, and many others, including members of the civil society, journalists, and civilians, including children are languishing in inhumane conditions in jails across India under the draconian neo-colonial laws, such as Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and Public Safety Act (PSA) without due process and fair judicial trials, it said and continued as saying “India’s judiciary has a history of bending to the intent of the establishment rather than following its legal obligations. The case of Afzal Guru’s hanging in 2013 is an example where the chief justice of the highest court stated that his hanging was rushed “to satisfy the collective conscience” of its people. It was even worse—It was rushed last minute for political reasons. Thus, considering this woeful scenario, the international community, including human rights organizations and the United Nations, must rise to the occasion, dissuade India from committing this gross injustice, and demand Mr. Malik’s immediate dismissal from the trial and release from prison”, the message said.
About the KDC
The Kashmir Diaspora Coalition (KDC), an international umbrella of Kashmiri diaspora organizations, was formally launched as a coalition of diaspora organizations following three day-meetings held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, in October 2022.
The charter members of the coalition include the US-based World Kashmir Awareness Forum, Canada-based Civitas, UK-based World Kashmir Freedom Movement, UK/EU-based Tehreek-e-Kashmir, UK-based Kashmir Campaign Global, and Turkiye-based Kashmir House Istanbul. KDC’S charter is based on the people’s right to self-determination in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
This foundational and inalienable right of Kashmiris is upheld by international law and affirmed by 18 substantive United Nations resolutions.
More specifically, United Nations Security Council resolution 47, passed on April 21, 1948, mandates a free and fair plebiscite to determine the will of the people of Kashmir, the message concluded. Ends
