LONDON: Syed Ghulam Abbas Kazmi, CEO SGAK group of companies, a third year law student at the University of London, International Program. Mr Kazmi kick started his career with the burning issue of ban on sale of fuel to motorbikers without safety helmets. Mr. Kazmi turn out against this and filed an application to the DC Islamabad office, Hazma Shafqaat and made it clear to him that he will be in the contempt of Supreme
Court’s decision if he continues to fine and seal petrol pumps on these grounds. The court observed that such
a ban was tantamount to usurping the basic rights of people and no such law stopped selling petrol to bikers
not wearing helmets. “Every citizen has the right to sale or purchase necessities of life,” the top court ruled
on 27.01.2021. To conclude DC office issued notification nullifying the pervious notification in which
wearing helmet was must to get the petrol. Although we must promote safety helmets for bikers,
motorcyclists, and in-fact all two wheelers to ensure their safety in case of any accidental situations.
Mr. Kazmi is a vibrant and proactive senior member of National Youth Assembly (NYA) and he also joined
them on many national and international forums including their Jan, 2020 exposure visit to Republic of
Turkey where they met Vice chancellors (VC) of numerous Universities, officials like Governor of Konya,
Grand Mufti, Pakistani mission in Ankara Embassy. Quoting the exact word of Mr. Qazi, the ambassador,
said “I feel very optimistic when I see this young generations doing such an amazing job and that reins
of our country’s future is in safe hands.”
Later Abbas also accompanied a delegation in Dubai which met some top level CEOs and ambassadors
including Timor Leste Island, who expressed his wishes and desire to visit Pakistan and that too very soon.
Learning without an outcome is just a waste of time and resources, thus Mr Kazmi summarized his learning
outcomes from their exposure visit from Turkey in following words. Diplomacy, ways to negotiate, convince
and try to reach a common point which satisfies the both parties; and above all representing the country,
whose green blood runs in the veins, are amongst few changes in his personality which he witnessed himself
and therefore recommended to join this platform for the leaders to be part of it so that learning continues
from cradle to grave.
In an interview with Mr Kazmi, he himself said “In Pakistan we only turn to court when we want
adjournments, stays or just to prolong the fair trail process. Indeed there are loopholes in the legislation too
that legislator need to look into but with due diligence and following the prescribed law we can achieve our
objective.” Hence we can deviate from that legal maxim that says, 'Justice delayed is justice denied'.
