ISLAMABAD, (Parliament Times) : The much-awaited Mohmand Dam Project further delayed at least eight months due to massive damages of its under-construction infrastructure during the recent flood.
The commencement date was 20th Sept 2019 and original completion date was fixed 21st Sept 2025 of this project which has installed capacity of 800 megawatts.
The overall physical progress till 30 Nov 2022 was 21.15 percent and 20 percent financial progress of the project has been completed, according to the officials of the project.
The total cost of the project was Rs238 billion and Rs.57 billion has been spent up to 30 Nov 2022.
However, the infrastructure of the project was massively damaged due to recent flood. Both diversion tunnels of the project and inlet and out lets works area were massively damaged due to heavy flood.
A senior official of the project has shared data and confirmed that the project may be delayed further at least eight months due to massive damages of its infrastructure during the recent flood. He further said that the diversion tunnels were drained in flood waters and collapsed. The project was also damaged due to land sliding on inlet and out lets area which was adjourned with the tunnel area.
The recovery process has been started at affected area of the dam.
It is pertinent to mentioned here that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had formed inquiry committee comprises of local and foreigner experts to look into the mater. The Committee members have visited and taken briefing on the damages. The inquiry committee will present its finding report to the Prime Minister very soon.
