NAIROBI : Senior journalist and anchorperson Arshad Sharif has been shot dead in Nairobi capital of Kenya.
Arshid Sharif is reported to have been killed by Kenyan Police along the Nairobi-Magadi highway on Sunday in “mistaken identity case”.
The family sources and colleagues of deceased journalist have confirmed that Arshid Sharif has been shot to death in Nairobi.
However further details about the incident are awaited. The local police have started investigation into the incident.
Javeria Siddique, wife of Arshid Sharif tweeted “ I lost my friend, husband and favorite journalist. Police have told that Arshid Sharif was gunned down in Kenya.
She appealed “ our privacy be respected and pictures of our family, personal details and last picture of Arshid Sharif which was taken in hospital be not published.
Senior journalist Arshid Sharif was associated with a TV channel in Karachi. He had gone to Dubai some time back after resigning from his job
At the inception of this year several treason cases were registered against him in different cities.
People have expressed condolence on social media website over the death of Arshid Sharif.
President Dr Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman) Imran Khan on Monday expressed profound shock and grief over the death of senior journalist Arshad Sharif.
The president termed the death of Arshad Sharif a “great loss to journalism and Pakistan”.
He prayed that may the soul of Arshad Sharif rest in peace and may his family, which includes his followers, have the strength to bear this loss.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep grief over the death of Arshad Sharif.
“I am deeply saddened by the shocking news of journalist Arshad Sharif’s tragic death,” he said.
He extended condolences to the bereaved family of Arshad Sharif.
“May Allah SWT grant him a place in Heaven. My deep condolences and prayers for the bereaved family,” he said.
While the former Prime Minister Imran Khan also posted a picture of Arshad Sharif along with a dua after his tragic death.
Senior journalist Kamran Khan has demanded Kenyan authorities and government of Pakistan to hold probe forthwith to ascertain facts with reference to the leading journalist.
