Hub: Focal Person for Relief to Flood Victims Balochistan Senator Samina Mumtaz Zahri has said that Pakistan is facing the effects of climate change, the country that is suffering from natural calamities needs help. Most of Pakistan is under water while the worst affected province of Balochistan is facing severe problems due to floods. Pakistan needs help from the whole world. She expressed these views on the occasion by giving ration bags, mosquito nets, clean drinking water, clothes, milk, children’s food and other necessities to the flood victims who came from interior Balochistan. She assured the victims that they are all our brothers and sisters and their relief and rehabilitation is our first priority.
Talking to the media representatives on the occasion, she said that Pakistan has contributed less than 0.4% of the global greenhouse gas emissions, yet it is among the ten countries most affected by climate change. More than 1,400 people died in recent floods due to climate change. 33 million people were displaced as climate refugees, including more than 600,000 pregnant women. Four million acres of crops were destroyed and above 750,000 animals died. Pakistan is facing an unprecedented natural disaster. Climate change is a huge problem for the world especially Pakistan and the international community has to come forward to prevent the effects of these climate changes. Climate change is a major challenge for the world. The international community will have to work together.
Meanwhile, Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri reached the settlements of the flood victims who came from interior Balochistan in the suburbs and remote areas of Hub, where she distributed more than 500 families ration bags, mosquito nets, clean drinking water, clothes, distributed milk, baby food and other essential items.
She also thanked Pak Army, FC, Habib Bank and other organizations those cooperated with us on our call and played an important role in the rehabilitation of the flood victims. The devastated people said that we have loss our Cattle and crops and have arrived here after being destroyed and so far no one has visited us. Senator Samina Zehri is the first person who reached out to us and personally delivered food items including mosquito nets, milk to our children and other essential items for which we are grateful to her who reached out to us.
Samina Mumtaz Zehri said that according to our status and with the grace of ALLAH almighty we will help our brothers and sisters who are victims of floods as much as we can. It is our duty to help these people. Even before this, we have delivered relief goods to different areas of Balochistan according to our ability and we will continue to help the flood-affected brothers and sisters as much as we can. She further said that diseases can be more deadly than floods, for which effective emergency measures must be taken. She warned the international community, including the federal and provincial governments, of other disasters after the flood, saying that floods may be caused by water. Diseases and malnutrition can be more deadly than floods. Women and children are facing various diseases for which we are making efforts on an emergency basis.
She said that if the seriousness of this problem is ignored, diseases like dengue, malaria, cholera and diarrhea will lead to malnutrition. The death toll may be more than the death toll from floods, which Pakistan cannot afford. To deal with this situation, the international community has to come forward and meet the target of aid required for Pakistan to deal with this natural disaster so that no human tragedy can be born here.
She added that the first priority of all of us is health. To deal with the crisis that is taking hold in the flood-affected districts and outbreaks of epidemics.
