ZHOB: “The livestock sector plays an important role in the rural economy in poverty-hit Balochistan. The livestock rearing is the primary source of livelihood as the rural economy is heavily reliant on livestock,” said District Livestock Officer at Livestock and Dairy Development Zhob Dr Naseebullah Kakar.

He said, keeping in mind the crucial role of livestock sector in the rural economy, on the special directives of provincial minister Livestock and Dairy Development Bakht Muhammad Kakar, Secretary Muhammad Tayyab Lehri and Director General Dr Farooq Tareen, free mobile veterinary camps have been organized in different villages of Dana Abdullah Zai – a remote and mountainous part of the district and Qamar Din Karez – close to Pak-Afghan border.

“Under the supervision of District Livestock Officer Dr Naseebullah Kakar, over 25,000 cattle have been vaccinated and free medicines have been provided to the cattle owners,” he told journalist Rafiullah Mandokhail.

The people of the area have thanked the provincial minister and the livestock officer for organizing free vet camps and said that Dana Abdullah Zai and Qamar Din Karez are far-off hilly areas, where the only source of livelihood is livestock. By organizing free veterinary camps, various animal diseases have been prevented through vaccination.

Dr. Naseebullah Kakar has said that the livestock sector has potential to support the livelihood of the rural population as it is a key source of employment for a large population of Balochistan. Sheep, goats, cows and camels are reared extensively in Balochistan. These cattle are not only part of the local diet, but their dairy products, such as milk, meat, and wool also have a commercial value.

“Efforts are being made by the provincial government of Balochistan to develop and put the livestock sector on modern lines. So that the livelihood of the rural people can be improved,’ he vowed.
