ISLAMABAD:  Government has dropped another electricity bombshell on the people amid the reports NEPRA has hiked power tariff by Rs 7.90 per unit.

The tariff has been increased under monthly fuel adjustment. NEPRA will issue detailed decision later.

NEPRA said the oil prices have gone up manifold in international market and had costly fuel been used then the increase in the power tariff would have been larger.
CPPA said the fuel prices at international leveal have shot up enormously. Earlier the coal was cheaper at international level but coal price skyrocketed in the wake of Russia-Ukraine war at global level.

As per CPPA, LNG cargoes are becoming available at the rate of 42 dollars at the end of July. But it is next to impossible to purchase them in the face of prevailing situation in the country. One cargo has been cancelled under long term agreement too.

Chairman NEPRA said we get entrapped if we do somethng and if we don’t generate power then too there is loadshedding and if we generate then it will be constly.
Plants should not be installed at imported fuel now, he added.
