The bilateral relations between Pakistan and America have seen pit and falls since the inception of Pakistan but the ongoing letter issue has brought mutual ties at a staggering position. Pakistan joined America led Western allience communist bloc and signed a treaty of bilateral relations with America. At the same year Pakistan joind SEATO__a US sponsored security alliance. While, in 1955 Pakistan also joined Baghdad pact, the CENTO. During that period the US helped Pakistan ecnomic and militarily both. In 1959, a mutual treaty was signed as per the terms of it, the US had to help and assisst Pakistan if it was attacked by any regional country. At one side, the US provided infrastructure development, while on the other hand, Pakistan received Patton Tanks, Artillery, helicopters, bombars, distance Radars, frigates, Submarines, and other equipments. Whereas, the US was given to set up a secrt communication base in Badaber, Peshwar. The friendly relations faced a setback during the Sino__India war, when America sided India which chaned the geopolitical situation of the region. That resulted in better relations of Pakistan with China. The war of 1965 between Pakistan and India was a huge blow to mutual cooperation between Pakistan and America as America stopped provsion of military assistance during a needed time. Leter on, the 1971 war also showd resentment in mutual relations. After 1971, zulfaqar Ali Bhuto pulled out Pakistan from defense pacts and tried to enhance bilateral relations with China and the USSR. In 1975, at the time of Zulfaqar Ali Bhuto visit, the US lifted arm embargo. The relationship became worst over the nuclear program of Pakistan. In 1979, President Jimmy Carter again suspended aid to Pakistan. The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan again compelled America to reasses its policy for Pakistan. To encounter the USSR, Pakistan was the linchpin of the American led alliance. After the withdrawal of the USSR, new world order of unipolar syatem came into existence and again Pakistan was left in lurch. The relation were again freezed. In 1998, America Sanctioned Pakistan over nuclear tests. In the midst of starined ties, the 9/11 incident took place and Pakistan again became the US need in war against terrorism. By participating in the war on terrorism, Pakistan witnessed internal insecurity, ecnomic meltdown, social and political instability. At present, the fiasco of letter issue which the former prime minister Imran Khan has alleged as a conspiracy to outset him resulted strained relations between Pakistan and America. While writing this piece, the new foreign minister of Pakistan Bilawal Bhotu Zardari has been invited by US administration to participate in global Covid and food insecurity conference. The history of bilateral ties between America in Pakistan has been compsrised of rage against America. The public sentiments of the Pakistanis have never been good as many leaders have played anti American stunt times and again in which Imran Khan has no exception. At a time when the sword of damocles of the FATF, ecnomic fragility, the IMF bailout package, the annexation of occupied Kashmir by India, and Afghanistan quagmire after the US withdrawal have become drastic challanges for Pakistan___ will the new coalition government of Pakistan succeed in melting the ice of strained relation with America? The hopes should be high.
