If you ever look at Kashmir, it seems no less than heaven from an eye of tourist but for the residents of Kashmir life totally different and challenging. People are living the life in an uncertainty . Military operations routinely, curfew , raids , communication barrriers, detentions and fake encounters are part of the life of the people of Kashmir. Life in Indian illegaly Occupied Jammu & Kashmir was never normal. Kashmiris are struggling for their right to self-determination for decades. This never-ending struggle has cost them their precious lives and blood. Kashmir is the most heavy militarized zone in the world and the Indian troops brutally keep killing, detaining , and torturing the people of Kashmir. However, life in Kashmir has become more challenging when India unilaterally abrogated article 470 and 35 A which grants special status and internal autonomy to the state of Jammu & Kashmir. It’s been two years eight months of turmoil in the occupied valley, the people of Kashmir are facing extreme violence and suffering. Indian government continued the human rights violations by using fake operations and false laws like Public safety Act (PSA), National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Armed forces Special power Act (AFSPA) of India. There is a rise in search operations, fake encounters, illegal detentions, Extra-judicial Killings, destroying homes by using chemical explosives and different ways of violence of Human rights by Indian armed forces has become a routine in Indian Illegaly occupied Kashmir. The Kashmir conflict is much more than territorial dispute, it’s a peaceful struggle for the right to self-determination by the people of Kashmir. Indian government is denying the human rights, education, healthcare , social rights and democratic rights in Indian illegally occupied Kashmir. The year 2019 has been the most tragic for Jammu and Kashmir. Where life changed on 5th of August , when the the interior minister passed a resolution and central government of India under the Hindutva fascist regime revoked the partial autonomy of the region. From Internet shutdown to curfew and from detention of political leaders to local youth under (public safety act), life has been at halt. While the decision was taken for the development of the region, as per the government, but the economy as well as the development of people’s lives has seen no change but trauma. Indian troops are brutally killing innocent kashmiris. Indian extremist Modi’s regime is on the path to change the Muslim majority into minority in Indian Illegaly Occupied Jammu & Kashmir. Even before the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A, life in Kashmir was not normal . Protests for the right to self-determination remained a never-ending struggle in the disputed territory. Kashmiris are fueling this freedom struggle with their blood and facing resistance by Indian army in their struggle for the right to self-determination for than seven decades but the situation got worsened after the abrogation of Article 370 which grants special status to the state of Jammu & Kashmir. On 17th April 2022 State Investigation Agency arrested Dr Abdul Aala Fazili who was a PhD scholar at Kashmir University for writing a thought provoking article “Shackles of slavery will break” in a magazine. He is at risk of being charged by the authorities in India with terrorism-related crimes. He is not a terrorist, he’s is a Human Rights Defender. State Investigation Agency also raided his home and office of The Kashmir Walla, seized research materials, laptops and other digital equipment. Apart from the leaders, scholars and journalists the youth of Kashmir is illegally detained on fake charges . Amoung the illegaly detained renowned figures are; Yasin Malik, Shabbir Shah, Mussarat Alam Butt, Asia Indrabi and many more who are detained by NIA. The Indian State directly pressured local print and news media to blackout stories related to police and Army . The ongoing siege and human rights violations in Kashmir are targeting only Muslim majority of the region. The Muslim community of Kashmir has become a sacrificial animal at the altar of the agenda Hindu Nationalist party BJP. Detention and torture are common. This persistent conflict and Human rights violations have created a sense of mental instability and terror amoung the people of Jammu & Kashmir. The shackles of slavery will break but for that we have to refrain from the disease of forgetfulness. We remember the killings and incarcerations of thousands of people. We remember the Lal chowk fire that consumed over 50 homes and 260 shops. We remember the Cheeni-Chowk Fire that destroyed more than 100 homes and dozen of shops and 3 mosques. We remember the killings of more than 1 lakh people since 1989 till 2010. We remember the molestations and rapes committed on thousands of our daughters. We remember the bones and bodies of our men discovered in thousands of unmarked and mass graves. We remember the worst forms of tortures and humiliations being inflicted on us by the Indian troopeers. We remember that we shall never forget all this. India may have succeded in killing , arresting and torturing our people but they will never succeed in the death of our dreams. The dream of free Kashmir, living a dignified and prosperous life without any fear. As a native of Kashmir, I feel that Ramadan is a time to rethink the extent of our solidarity with the Muslims living under Military siege. Thousands of Kashmiri Leaders, writers, Activists, journalists, scholars, intellectuals and youth are breaking their fast in the prisons of India, and we ask ourselves if the prophet were to come back to this world today, who would he break fast with? The Muslims of Kashmir who suffer for identifying with call of Muhammad (S.A.W) ? Or the participants of glutenous feasts in the Gulf, who award the murderers of Muslims like Modi with the highest awards?
