NEW DELHI : India’s legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar has cheered Indian women’s team despite their defeat in World Cup do-or-die encounter against South Africa women.
In a thriller on Sunday, South Africa women grabbed the victory against India women on the very last match of the ball, with three wickets in hands. The defeat ended India’s run in ICC Women’s World Cup.
“We know you gave your best and did everything you could. Keep your heads high,” Tendulkar wrote in his tweet.
“We will always support you,” arguably the best batter in world history wrote.
India’s fate of a semi-final qualification was denied by an inch as Deepti Sharma delivered a no ball, of which she had taken a crucial wicket, in the final over of the game. The delivery was denied and so was the wicket and South Africa held their nerves in their final moments to complete their highest successful chase in ODIs, hunting down 275 at Christchurch after a middle-order collapse.
On the other hand, India’s former captain and star batter Virat Kohli also took to twitter to boost morale of girls in blue. “Always tough to bow out of a tournament you aim to win but our women’s team can hold their heads high. You gave it your all and we are proud of you,” Kohli wrote in a tweet.
