Naseebullah Khan
Experimentation in democracy is fatal. When inexperienced, stubborn, narcissist, egoist, and megalomaniac leaders are brought to rule a country through hybrid means__the consequences are what we have been witnessing. The Imran experience has foiled to deliver. It has trampled to accomplish even a single point of its manifesto. Neither economy is on track nor there is any success on foreign policy front. Terrorism in the country is again taking speed whereas political instabilty and abusive culture are at their peak. On the flip side, the mantra of corruption has bulldosed where the country during the reign of Imran Khan in corruption has slided spot from 124 to 140 out of 180 countries. It is an undoubted reality that the PTI had a huge support from all institutions including military establishment for the past three years. The blow to the relationship happened when a controversy was started on the appointment of the ISI chief. It was the first time that the army was publically dragged into politics by this incumbant government through immature moves. Despite this, some federal ministers categorically said that the governmnet has backing of the establishment. In spite of this, the blunders of the government on economic, political and foreign policy front did not stop. Democratic values that the government should behave sensibly with opposition and the head of state should behave like a mother. Unfortunately, the scenario is reversed here. The prime minister, despite of showing responsibility and sanness, time and again urged to provide container to the opposition parties if they wished to launch a long March. Such type of rare and unexpected exaggeration seldom find in democracy. The abrupt and unwanted statements of prime minister and his cabinet members on foreign policy pushed Pakistan into quagmire. The misunderstanding about the CPEC and our friendly relationship with china started when the then commerce minister and minster for planing commision gave irrelevent and exaggerated statements that made Chinese suspicious. Consequently, the progress on the CPEC hampered. The brunt of which was born by the country on economic front. When all international community was siding the oppressed Ukrainians against the Russian invasion, Imran Khan had been favouring it and was visiting there at the time when Russia started the intrusion. The statement when Imran Khan blamed US and EU for their ungratefulness and by saying that we were not their slaves proved to be alienation of Pakistan from international community. The public sentiments are aggressive as unemployment, poverty, and inflation have reached at the highest stage in the history of the country. These factors are the result of shrinking economy of the country where trade deficit and borrowing has crossed the highest ratio in the history of Pakistan again.Imran Khan has missed the boat. The hybrid system has failed to give result as it was expected. Democracy demands abiding by rule of law and the separation of power____ in case of Pakistan that has been envisaged in the constitution. Would it not better let people decide according to their whims and elect their representatives and that let democracy evolve in the country without any interference from establishment and other institutions?
