Research demonstrates that with our rapid economic development (so-called human beings), we have weakened our concern for nature to a regrettable extent. The freshness and purity of nature are basic critical needs for our existence. What a tragedy that we, the most civilised, cultured and enlightened species are destroying our mother nature with our own hands. Undoubtedly, we all once in a while hear about pollution, global warming, greenhouse emissions and many such inclusive alarms but we all slide through it thinking that pollution is such a worldwide thing and we cannot do anything about it. Nevertheless, we hear persistently that each year around 1.3 million people die due to road accidents, around 4.2 million people die each year due to outdoor air pollution and around 3.8 million people die each year owing to indoor air pollution. Altogether, around 7 million people die annually from the malady of air pollution. What is even more staggering is that this appalling number of people are victims of air pollution. Statistics further explain that 1.2 billion people around the world don’t have access to clean water, and waterborne infections account for 80% of all infectious diseases globally. A substance as common as plastic is the principle cause of pollution yet what is even more significant and calls for attention is the fact that even after knowing plastic is accountable for all these deaths, we still produce about 300 million tons of plastic annually. Given this grim prevailing situation , it is now high time to address and put in the effort to ameliorate this situation. How can we make a difference? The great news is that every single person reading this write-up already can make a difference. We must admit this simple fact that we can’t turn back time and revert to a world without plastic and trash. What we need to do is conscientious that there is already enough plastic in this world and we don’t need to manufacture more of it. All that we need to do is be smart about reusing what is already here and that means ceasing the single-use cycle because our actions today have an immense impact tomorrow. It is simple to constitute a strong rule discouraging throwing garbage here and there. Similarly, we need to resort to reusable when going grocery shopping, ditching plastic bottles and investing in glass bottles instead. Also, when you are at a restaurant, ask for a drink without a plastic straw. These small actions can make a huge difference and change the perception of people towards the environment. This perception of people that environmental issues can only be resolved by massive policy changes, couldn’t be further from the truth. I am gonna take an example of my hometown, Banjosa. Here I have that green belt has changed drastically in the past few years. I remember being so excited to go to Banjosa Jheel, and now I don’t want to go there because it has sadly turned into no more than a plastic/trash dump. That place is incredibly blessed by God, but it seems that we don’t care about it. Honestly, if all the blessings bestowed upon Banjosa are utilized properly it can bring a huge change with the addition of massive income and revenue to the locals of Banjosa. Nevertheless, it doesn’t like we want to do so. Day by day, that place is turning into no more than just a dump truck. Nobody is ready to listen, nobody is ready to change. For God’s sake, we need to preserve this beauty for the next generations. We need to use all the blessings smartly; we need to bring a change. We are just ignoring it as if we can do nothing about it. Remember, it is never too late to cahmge. We need only strong will. I am sorry to say but If we don’t stop with our littering and throwing garbage, we will end up wasting everything. We can preserve Banjosa and all the other places from very simple but consistent acts. For instance by avoiding throwing trash here and there, by reusing plastic bags and by limiting the use of plastic. These acts are so pragmatic. If each one of us takes this obligation gravely to reduce pollution, there will be no one producing pollution and thus we can live in a pollution-free environment. No doubt, the Earth we exploit, the water we abouse, the greenery we waste and the roads and streets we pollute with littering- ultimately these all bring about deadly consequences. Unfortunately, that would be the most inhumane and embarrassing heritage from our present generation to the next. Let us be human by being sincere and friendly to our planet, the beloved Earth.
